  • Unique Banana Shape
  • Easy Care
  • Grows Lily Pads

Banana plants have been a staple of the aquarium hobby for many years. They're loved for both their ease of care and visual impact. The banana plant gets its name because it's tubers (where nutrients are stored) are shaped like a bunch of bananas.

Once established, banana plants will send up wavy, green leaves under the surface while also sending tall shoots to the surface where it will produce lily pads. When this happens, check to make sure your other plants aren't being shaded out by the lily pads and trim if necessary.

Good-looking plant.

This banana plant came to me with a healthy set of tubers and 2 small leaves. It looked small, but very healthy. After being in my aquarium a week, it already has grown and sprouted 2 more leaves and looks very happy. I am very pleased with this plant and will order from the co-op again.

Very healthy, quick to adapt

I use these in several set ups of varying parameters. They even do well in true black water set ups (very low solids, ph low 5s) and have faired well for me into the low 80s (have not tried hotter). These always bounce back from shipping quickly and my fish love them.

cute plant

Great experience buying from Aquarium Co-op. The banana plant is super cute and rooting in my tank. Everything shipped quickly, was thoughtfully packaged, and seemed healthy. Most importantly, the crushed coral I ordered corrected the ph and alkalinity in my tank very quickly and I now have a healthy tank for my cute little fish.
