Using in a twenty long for a stream flow. Fine flow addition...but using the aeration option added bubbling stream flow drama. Looks really great. Using some big rocks to flow around and the bubbles make the look, and with the rocks and aiming the flow at a slight angle towards the front, the speed of the flow quiets at the second half of the 20g long tank. So with my set up, not all action, some substantial area for fish to rest. Putting in the airline addition (so that you are pulling air into the water flow) not explained at all in instructions and seems to be some options and alternative pieces there. I recommend be careful with the assorted pieces: if you don't get good bubbling, look over your setup...if you put it together a certain way, it leaves an open hole along the outlet valve...plug that hole with the teensy mysterious rubber piece: 1000% more bubbles. Bubbling worked for me when powerhead set at bottom of 12 inch deep tank. Also two adapters (?) come attached with the airline tube, not sure what they were for. One looks like it might be meant to be a check valve, but failed to perform as such during initial experimentation. =>I recommend using a check valve if using the aeration tube. Once happy with the set up, I taped the end of the airline intake tube to the top back of the tank, so that it wouldn't fall back easily into the water. Also if using the powerhead in the tank for flow, recommend using one of the included powerhead outlet valves, as they let you aim the flow more. They wouldn't be needed if just using to pump for water changes, of course. Experiment in sink first, those suction pad feet stick hard to the tank wall, so getting it in and out was pretty annoying. Overall: VERY much the look and movement I wanted and appears to add a lot to oxygen content of tank. I can see little bubbles throughout tank, looks like a stream rushes into the tank at one end. Might be too turbulent without the big rocks. Unfortunately, noticeably loud vibrating hum even before aeration added. Tank is in my guest room, so probably someday soon will need a quieter option. For the amazingly good price this is a Very Good product with non-existent instructions for optional aeration feature. If you don't get good bubbling, then try putting it together a different way. Fish not added yet, so I cannot give their opinion :)
I attach to end of my python hose, throw in tank, plug in, and there goes the water! I always worried that one of my fish might swim into python vacuum, but this has small "basket" on the intake, so no more fear about that. True, this keeps me from being able to vacuum gravel, but with planted tank I only vacuum surface, so I now use smaller hose for that. Very glad I bought this item!!!
Good flow rate works great on my lrg aquarium coop sponge filter.
