AquaClear Filter

Size

Aquaclear filters are our favorite hang on back filters because they have a large media chamber that you can customize to what you need. We typically run multiple sponges in them and an intake sponge. We recommend buying 1 size up for your tank.

  • 10 gallon - use the Aquaclear 20
  • 20 Gallon uses the Aquaclear 30
  • 30 Gallon uses the Aquaclear 50
  • 40 Gallon Uses the Aquaclear 50

5.5 Gallon Betta/Shrimp Planted

I am new to the planted tank world. I bought this filter for my 5.5 gallon betta/shrimp planted tank. I found that even on the lowest setting with a prefilter sponge, the current is still stronger than I am comfortable with. Also, Aquarium Co-op no longer carries the Fluval brand replacement sponge (as far as I can tell). I wanted to replace my carbon pack with a second identical filter sponge and was not able to do this via Aquarium Co-op online. I ended up ordering a sponge filter and I am going to test it out and decide which one I prefer. The current is too strong for my betta and for my plants. I am going to save the AC20 for when I get a larger tank. And a side note, this does make some noise if any tiny thing gets into the impeller area so I do recommend a prefilter sponge and if it is loud, clean the impeller compartment and give it a few days to settle.

Overall I would buy again but not for a tank under 10 gallons.

Great filter, getting louder with use

I had previously had a sponge filter running in my 5 gallon tank. I am using a fine gravel and found it to be dusty. As soon as I set up this filter it really helped create a nice adjustable current and clear water.
I would have given this filter 5 stars if it was more quiet.... it vibrates a little more than I'd like. It seems to be getting louder. Trying to figure out what to do to buffer or remedy this.
Overall an awesome filter with great options to customize to your specific needs.

AquaClear20 in 10 Gallon Tank

This is the first HOB filter I've purchased. To this point, I've used whatever filter came with the "all-in-one basic aquarium kits" for my 5 gallon and 10 gallon tanks. But I decided the flow for my 10 gallon Guppy tank wasn't sufficient . . . so I upgraded to this filter. I also added the Aqarium CoOp Medium Pre Filter sponge (which is actually too large for this filter). So far so good! The flow is much better. I stuffed the media slot with a sponge filter, the bioring bag and the old sponge/filter floss bag I had in my previous filter, and it seems to be working well! Thumbs up for this filter in my 10 gal!

Live Arrival Guarantee
We guarantee our live products will arrive alive. We ask that you do your part and minimize the amount of time our packages sit out in the elements. It can also be a good idea to avoid ordering live items during extreme temperatures. This would be when night time temps are below 35 and over 80 degrees during the day. Now these temps are not for sure death, it's just what makes it easiest for all of us during shipping.

When temperatures are cold we will use heat packs and extreme cold styrofoam liners. Shipping live goods is difficult as our warehouse could be 70 degrees and your home could be snowing, and all the stops in between. We do our best and will make it right for you and may request to try again at a different time.  During heat waves, it's best to avoid ordering live goods as ice packs etc don't do enough to mitigate it.

30 Day Return Policy
Our goal is to provide a fair way to satisfy our customers and not lose money while doing it. We make every effort to fully disclose how our products work and what is to be expected. A damaged product during shipping is an automatic replacement from us. When it comes to a difference of opinion such as: "My fish doesn’t like this food." That we don’t refund for. However, if you decide the light you bought is a bit too green for your liking, provided it is in the original box, within 30 days and purchased from us, we will refund it at your cost of shipping.

If you would like to return a product, start the process by emailing us at shipping@aquariumcoop.com This allows us to see if there is something we can do before returning the product such as a feature you didn’t know about or send you a return label. We don’t require an RMA number, but do ask you to contact us to initiate the return. Please do not call the retail store as they operate separately from the warehouse and will not be able to issue you a return label etc.
