I used this recently when I had to be away for the weekend just after a slew of baby shrimp had emerged from hiding and started moving around the tank. I was worried they'd have a hard time competing with the adults for access to biofilm and other food. Upon my return most of the block is still there, and all ages of shrimp and snails are still enjoying it.
