I had the worst luck with fry and snails getting killed in my hang-on-back, but with prefilters on all my intakes, not any more.
This sponge is going to save me a bunch of money, not having to constantly buy the boxes filters that I've always used for my aquarium. Works great, catches the nasty stuff and doesn't clog. Great product.
I had been looking all over the place for a coarser intake sponge. So this was just what I'd been looking for. It it fits my hob filter well and doesn't clog up and slow my filtration like the fine sponges I'd found did. Thanks
Was too small
Excellent fit on my Aqueon Quietflow 10 and 30 HOB filters. Aquarium coop is one of the best suppliers of dry goods and information!!!
Just alittle smaller than j thought but otherwise dine
Spent a few bucks to save many more dollars. Been using it for a week now and it obviously works
I bought the medium intake sponge thinking it would fit on my daughter's 4o gal. Marineland bio wheel hob filter. The whole is about the size of the small intake filters I bought at my local fish store, which was too small for her intake filter. I tried to stretch the hole and I ended up tearing the sponge. We are still using this with the tear facing the back. It seems to be working o.k. but I would definitely recommend a larger hole in the medium sponge.
This works really well on my Marineland filter. it keeps all the major gunk from clogging my impeller or cartridge, and protects fry.
the medium size spong works really well. Fit nice and snug on keep filter. (Aqua tech 5-15 gallon). So far it has kept the tank pretty clean. The only down side to this size doing is that the center hole goes through all the way. Even then it's not a problem. Cut a small piece off and plugged one end. ( just like Cory suggested in his video. Very happy!
From what I've read & learned so far with the hobby is the more beneficial bacteria the better. I slapped this thing on my Aqua Clear 30 and it has been working swimmingly.
When it comes time to clean the filter I can now alternate from sponge, to rinsing filter media using my tank water at different times. Hence always having that beneficial bacteria going and flowing!
Great easy to use product.
Thank Aquarium Co-op!
Thank you for all your helpfull ideas.I'm so glad I found your utube videos. I have learned so much. I never cconsidered how much easier this hobby could be with just a few tweaks.
Only had the sponge added for a few days, and I have not tested the water for nitrate percentage since putting the sponge in place. It may take awhile but hopefully the nitrate will be reduced. Currently changing 25% every other day in a 20 gal aquarium with one goldfish over 7" long and 4 years old.
I know these things can take awhile to correct.
Received my intake filter, well-packaged and delivered in a timely manner. It was difficult getting it on the intake, but once on, it didn't take up as much room as I initially thought. Couple days later, no outgoing flow from my Aqueon pump. Pulled everything apart, cleaned and installed a new fiber/coal filter, cleaned and re-installed the intake filter - still no flow. I removed the new intake filter and the normal circulation resumed immediately.
Don't think this filter was designed for my unit, maybe it works for others, don't know. For me, it's sitting in a drawer.
The intake sponges sold here are exactly as advertised. I have all 3 sizes and they all work great for what I need them for. No holes in the bottom of the large or small like they say. Great products! Thank you aquarium co op.
These intake sponges have a coarse density which is perfect. Does not tax the impeller motor and does not clog. You can leave it and let the beneficial bacteria grow.
After several weeks of use, I noticed a very good effect on my aquarium. Provides more surface area for beneficial bacterias to grow and keeps filter internals clean of debris. The prefilters I received had a pass-through hole, which might be a problem for those with filter intakes without a closed bottom. However, the hole can be easily plugged on one end with sponge or fabric bits to fix that issue. This is the easiest filter upgrade to get.
Easy to install and working great..
Simple and efficient.
A great way if maximizing your filtration.
This is a simple way to improve mechanical and biological filtration. It also adds to the safety of the fish. To me it's a no brainer, I use intake filters on all my intakes now. Worth the small price....
Nothing much else to say, increases filtration, keeps any small fish from your intake and if you have sand with a HOB, it will save your impeller. Great product
This is the BEST money spent on your aquarium! I bought 4 intake sponges for my aquariums and the water in all of them is so much clearer. I never thought adding intake sponges would help as much as they have. Thank you again, Cory for doing that video on how to super charge your filter!
Would recommend this product! I bought it for my 40 gallon and it arrived quickly and packaged really well! Truly spends time on all his products
