Catappa leaves, also known as Indian Almond Leaves, come from the Terminalia catappa tree. They have chemical healing properties, which may naturally help fight off mild bacterial, fungal, or parasitic infections. Therefore, these leaves are great for many different types of livestock including bettas, shrimp, community fish, and more.

Perfect Food For Shrimp

Catappa leaves break down in your aquarium from bacteria. This bacteria is a great food source for your shrimp. If you are leaving for vacation and want to make sure your shrimp don't go hungry, you can presoak some leaves in a bucket for 1–2 weeks and then drop them in the aquarium when they're nice and soft.

How Many Leaves to Add

Typically, we add 1 leaf for every 5-20 gallons of water, but it really depends on how many shrimp you are keeping. (If you're making a blackwater tank, then add more.) Most leaves last about 1–2 months until they break down completely. Once you start seeing holes develop in the first leaf, add a second leaf to give it time to start breaking down and releasing tannins.

My shrimp seem to love them, but they weren't attracted to Catappa leaves versus the maple and oak leaves that I've used from my yard for years now... Keep up your awesomeness and go enjoy some nature today...!

Plants and leaves order

I ordered 4 plants and some moss, fertilizer and some catalpa leaves. Everything was very good. I will order from Aquarium Co-op again.

Simple and Effective

One leaf takes about 1-2 days to sink, then breaks down over a couple of weeks. Great for feeding snails and adding a little tannins/atmosphere to an aquarium.

Shipping Policy

We process and ship out 98%+ of our shipments next business day. 

Live plants will ship using an appropriate service and typically arrive in 2 to 5 business days. Transit times do not include weekends, holidays, or weather delays. To avoid delays in the shipping network we recommend ordering live plants on Saturdays and Sundays for a Monday ship out.

Dry goods such as fish food, medication, filtration products, etc. can be ordered any day and will ship the next business day with an appropriate service. Typical shipping times are 1 to 7 business day transit time, depending on delivery location. 

Faster shipping options available at checkout for an additional charge.

Alaska and Hawaii have a $17.99 surcharge. We do not ship to Puerto Rico currently.
