  • Long, wispy leaves
  • Easy background plant
  • Great cover for fish and shrimp
  • Not available to be shipped to Hawaii and Alaska.

Pogostemon stellatus 'Octopus' is very eye-catching due to its long, wispy and bright green leaves. This easy stem plant thrives under low to medium light and provides excellent cover for fish and shrimp to hide out. Once it starts getting established, it can grow quite tall in a short amount of time and may require regular trimming.

We Include Heat Packs and Liners Free of Charge

We have a custom-developed algorithm to include heat packs and insulating plant liners as needed, based on the weather forecast from our warehouse to your shipping address. This helps keep plants at stable temperatures, both in hot and cold weather. Other vendors typically charge you at checkout for a heat pack. We include them when needed free of charge because it's our job to deliver our plants to your door healthy.

How We Grow and Store Our Plants

We store all of our plants in aquariums with plenty of light and fertilizer to start converting their leaves. This picture is from our warehouse. Not all vendors store their plants in water; many store them out of water in bags straight from the farms. This is more time without light and doesn't give them a head start in growing underwater leaves.

Plant Weights Help Keep Stems in Place

Pogostemon stellatus octopus grows quickly, allowing you to trim the stems and plant the cut pieces in the substrate to fill in empty space. Before these stems have roots to hold them in place, they can often be difficult to keep planted, so having some plant weights around can be helpful to prevent them from floating away.

Unfortunately, it did not arrive alive. There was still a green stem, but the roots have died off.

Great plant

Purchased these plants to fill in one side of my 75 gallon aquarium and to hide intake tube and heater. It is fast growing and filled the space nicely. Fish enjoy them as well!

I am shocked at how quickly these took off in my tank. It’s been 5 days and I already see new growth with minimal melting. Shipping was quick and plants were well packaged. I would definitely order from aquarium coop again.

nope, not good

this was just a bunch of stems in a pot with a couple of dead leaves that have already fallen off after being in a tank a couple days. I am hoping it will come back to life. I have a nice lamp on there plus it gets sunlight for 2 hours out of the day so we shall see.

Little Pigs!

My plant looked a bite wilted when it arrived but started to revive once in the bowl with my goldfish Lucy and Ethel who promptly eat it! They said it was delicious!! Might you recommend a plant that they might not devour?

For those who are wondering, this is what the plant looks like after one year of growth in a low tech tank.

100% satisfaction

This plant is amazing. Quite a unique structure and just such a prolific addition. It will even show red in the leaves under the right conditions! A welcomed surprise

Great plant for fry!

I received three rooted plants in one pot. Two went in a tank full of Danio fry, and the third went into a tank with Buenos Aires tetras, which love to eat plants. They are all doing very well, although growing much faster in the shallower tank. The tetras have taken a couple bites out, but prefer lettuce.

GREAT High Temp Plant!

This plant is great in two ways:
1. Does well in the 83F of my discus tank.
2. Doesn’t get the black algae other plants struggle with.
I’m enjoying how fast it grows and how it converts from leafy to a long thin octopus look.
And it’s good in both substrate or floating.
It might very well be my favorite plant!

Black melted mess very disappointing...

Wow, was shocked by the shipment of plants I received. It's a good thing they label the plant bags because they were otherwise indistinguishable except for the hair grass and bananas plant. The contents of the package was ice cold as well (heat pack was totally cold not even a hint of heat), and the destination was Arizona so it was not like it was going to the North Pole. I had bought from the co-op previously, long ago when it was USPS only, and the plants back then were wonderful and arrived looking like plants instead of a black melted mess. I guess maybe I caught the co-op on a bad day. The fact that I ordered on a Friday was probably a very bad idea on my part. I had read they would ship next business day but the plants were packed on Friday and sat for several days before they began transit. I thought they would be packed and shipped on Monday, so my bad I suppose, for assuming. Shame on me. When you buy plants you're really buying roots so I just cut back all the melted mess down to the top of the pots and then put them in one of my patio ponds so they can grow out - will hope for the best. It's no fun scaping a tank with roots after all. The shipment packaging was fairly elaborate but did not help the plants. Seems as if the co-op could save a lot of money and just ship in normal plastic bags in a Styrofoam lined box. I often buy plants from companies that also sell fish and those potted plants always arrive looking healthy and beautiful (and larger for less money). Perhaps it's just the location, being shipped from Kentucky to Arizona, and apparently that just doesn't work for me. I guess I need stick to west coast sellers. It's winter here so excessive heat is not an issue with deliveries. I'm also home all day so it wasn't like the package sat outside for hours, I brought it in right away. Anyway, I usually don't post negative reviews anywhere because people who do get labeled as "malcontents", but for any new aquarists out there who order plants and receive them in the deplorable condition I did, they should be made aware that there are NO ABSOLUTES when shipping live things like plants, even from highly touted sellers like the co-op. If I was new to the hobby I would have been horrified to receive plants in this condition and thrown them out and would have never ordered on line ever again and would have gone back to fake plants. When I was new to the hobby back in the day, the first online plants I had ordered were from the co-op and they were so wonderful it encouraged me to go further in the hobby.

Great plant greater service

I received my plants quickly and they arrived healthy. I planted them and they still look great a couple of weeks later. They have settled in and started to grow a bit. I added easy root tabs to help. I received an email from aquarium coop checking to make sure I was satisfied.

It doesn’t stop multiplying!!

When I ordered this plant, I thought I would want to order more, but didn’t. So glad I didn’t!!! This plant doesn’t stop multiplying and will happily take over your tank, if permitted! It propagates easily, so far I had to remove some from my 55gal and put in my 40gal. And as it establishes, it grows even bigger in diameter. My lord, lol!! Much more than I was expecting. Which is both good and bad.

Just the plant I was looking for

Now that's its adjusted to my tank parameters, its growing gang busters and looks great. I love the willowy look, with its long emerald green leaves.
