Cryptocoryne parva is unique in that it is one of few foreground, carpeting plants that thrives under low light. It is also one of the smallest crypt species at only a couple inches tall. It has deep green, slender leaves which look almost grassy in appearance. As it grows, it can send out runners which will grow into new plants. This species grows extremely slowly, so we recommend using multiple pots to speed up the process of getting a lush carpet of crypt parva .

How to Plant Cryptocoryne Parva
1. Remove the potted plant from plastic basket, and split the rock wool in half.
2. Carefully remove the plant roots from the rock wool, and make sure to remove all the small, yellow fertilizer balls. Wash off any remaining debris.
3. Use planting tweezers or your fingers to push the roots of the crypt deeply into the substrate until they are completely buried. Pull out the plant slightly so that the crown (i.e., the base of the plant where all the leaves come out) is not covered with substrate.
4. If the plant keeps popping out of the ground, try inserting the plant at an angle or wrap a plant weight at the bottom of the plant to keep it anchored.
5. Make sure to add lots of root tabs if you’re using inert substrate or if your nutrient-rich substrate is depleted.
How to Grow Cryptocoryne Parva
— Cryptocoryne parva care is very easy, so start by using low lighting between 10-20 PAR.
— Why is my new cryptocoryne melting? Crypt plants are known to experience "crypt melt" where the leaves may melt when suddenly moved to a new environment. To help the plant recover faster and grow new leaves that are accustomed to your water parameters, leave the roots planted in the ground and make sure to provide nutrient-rich planted tank substrate or Easy Root Tabs.
— Why is my Cryptocoryne parva turning yellow after it was growing so well? Crypt plants absorb lots of nutrients from the ground, so it may be a nutrient deficiency. If the leaves are yellowing and dying after a couple of months, please add more root tabs.
— How to trim Cryptocoryne parva: If the crypt plant has dying or melting leaves, cut them off at the base of the leaf.
How to Propagate Cryptocoryne Parva
Crypt plants can reproduce in aquariums by sending out a horizontal runner with a little plantlet at the end or growing little nodes off the side of the original plant. The plantlet will sprout its own leaves and roots that grow into the ground. You can cut off the runner or gently split off the plantlet node from the parent plant. Then the plantlet can be replanted in a different location.

Awesome little nano crypt. I got 6 of these to make a small carpet area in my fluval flex 9 gallon. Highly recommend for nano tanks. They do grow really slow so if your impatient and don’t want to let them grow in then get you a couple of them.

If you want a carpet of plants in a low-tech tank, but you don’t want to be continually trimming the plants, get this. I ordered lots of them, because this is a slow grower. It’s worth it to me, though, just because I wearied of maintaining my dwarf hair grass (also a nice carpet). Bottom picture shows the newly planted Crypt parva, top pic shows the old Eleocharis acicularis’Mini,’ which was grown from tissue cultured plants.
I received nice healthy potted C. parva plants and separated them out into many little clumps to plant throughout my tank’s foreground.

Thought the parva would be awesome to put in the front of my tank to change it up a bit. It will stay small not go crazy like chain sword haha. Plus I love crypts so have to try to get them all!

It’s my first time in planted aquarium and first to purchase a live plant on the Internet. It was a great experience. The plants arrived healthy in a cold pack and still moist. I’ve read somewhere that I should sterilize it for snails so I used a 25% hydrogen peroxide dip. It turns out they are pest free so my succeeding purchase I just leave them overnight in fresh dechlorinated water when I cannot plant them right away. I bought one pot of Cryptocoryne Parva carefully separated into smaller groups and planted. Non of the plants I have purchased have melted under water so I guess they were grown already submerged in water. Overall all I am very happy and would be a repeat customer in the near future.

Originally I was a bit worried since the plants shipped during a cold snap, but they arrived without any damage. I ordered one pot and it contained 10 individual plants. Roots were well developed and there has been no die back so far. After about 2 weeks a few new leaves have appeared and the plants look healthy.

I ordered 7 crypts and 3 java fern recently for my new 29g setup in my office at work. The crypts have all been hanging out in their pots with a root tab stuffed in there for about 2 weeks now. They already looked great right out of the bag, there has been no melting, and I swear I have new baby leaves forming! Wouldn’t bother buying crypts anywhere else.

Great little detail plant. The plant came small (perfect for my small tank need) with good roots started. I did not have any dieback with this one. It has been a slow grower which has been nice since some of the other plants in the same tank grow quickly and need more frequent maintenance.
