Cryptocoryne Tropica is a form of Cryptocoryne wendtii which features long, crinkled leaves that are bronze to deep green in color. This crypt definitely stands out in an aquariums of any size. Because this is a medium-sized crypt which grows relatively slowly, it serves as a great low maintenance midground plant. It will thrive under low light and send out runners as it grows.

How to Plant Cryptocoryne Tropica
1. Remove the potted plant from plastic basket, and split the rock wool in half.
2. Carefully remove the plant roots from the rock wool, and make sure to remove all the small, yellow fertilizer balls. Wash off any remaining debris.
3. Use planting tweezers or your fingers to push the roots of the crypt deeply into the substrate until they are completely buried. Pull out the plant slightly so that the crown (i.e., the base of the plant where all the leaves come out) is not covered with substrate.
4. If the plant keeps popping out of the ground, try inserting the plant at an angle or wrap a plant weight at the bottom of the plant to keep it anchored.
5. Make sure to add lots of root tabs if you’re using inert substrate or if your nutrient-rich substrate is depleted.
How to Grow Cryptocoryne Tropica
— Cryptocoryne Tropica care is very easy, so start by using low lighting between 10-20 PAR.
— Why is my new cryptocoryne melting? Crypt plants are known to experience "crypt melt" where the leaves may melt when suddenly moved to a new environment. To help the plant recover faster and grow new leaves that are accustomed to your water parameters, leave the roots planted in the ground and make sure to provide nutrient-rich planted tank substrate or Easy Root Tabs.
— Why is my Cryptocoryne Tropica turning yellow after it was growing so well? Crypt plants absorb lots of nutrients from the ground, so it may be a nutrient deficiency. If the leaves are yellowing and dying after a couple of months, please add more root tabs.
— How to trim Cryptocoryne Tropica: If the crypt plant has dying or melting leaves, cut them off at the base of the leaf.
How to Propagate Cryptocoryne Tropica
Crypt plants can reproduce in aquariums by sending out a horizontal runner with a little plantlet at the end or growing little nodes off the side of the original plant. The plantlet will sprout its own leaves and roots that grow into the ground. You can cut off the runner or gently split off the plantlet node from the parent plant. Then the plantlet can be replanted in a different location.

I had never used this particular crypt before and wanted to see it. I ordered one. Showed up a nice healthy plant at a good size.
I have since ordered two more of them to use with the first in my mid-ground. It's in a 46 gallon bow front tank with an inexpensive live plant light from amazon. No fert at this point. It's been in for about 10 days. No melt back and a bit of new growth. I like the contrasting color of the leaves when used with a brighter green plant like java fern. Also shows well with red plants and against lighter colored rock and other decor.
Seems to be a hardy little crypt that's forgiving and works well in a low tech setup.

They arrived melted. I’m hoping the roots will grow. Only time will tell.

Hate to do this because I love Aquarium Co-op but when the order arrived almost all the leaves were completely melted hoping that it makes a come back but looks unlikely

I had minimal melt but it’s taking a long time to transition to its submerged growth. I’m hoping in a couple of months it will start taking off.

Ordered an assortment of plants for a new tank setup and as always, I am super pleased with the quality of Aquarium Co-op products. I've purchased plants from other websites, local shops, big box stores, and it was always hit-or-miss with the quality, health of the plant or I would get unwanted pest "hitchhikers" on them.
A few years ago I started purchasing plants here, I'm now setting up a 3rd planted tank filled with Aquarium Co-op plants and have never been disappointed. The plants arrive fast, are packaged with extreme care and are always in phenomenal condition.
I cannot recommend Aquarium Co-op enough for live plants, as well as Easy Green fertilizer and root tabs, and other aquarium needs.

All three pots were received in excellent condition. They have all put out new leaves since I received them. The hammered texture of the leaves is lovely and contrasts well with the C. Wendtii green and brown that I already had in this tank. The new crypts are to the right of the wood in this photo.

I am a return customer and the plants I buy from the Co-op are always healthy and happy. This time I ordered Crypt Tropica to fill a spot in one of my tanks. The plant I received was a beautiful lush healthy plant, and once planted it looked like it had been in the tank for a long time. So far it has not melted, not even one leaf. I would definitely buy again from the Co-op. Tropica is more of a medium size crypt with beautiful olive color leaves. It is a beautiful mid to foreground plant. Even my guppies in my community tank love it.
