These 2 inch thick reusable sponge pads come in three porosities. Black 15ppi being the most coarse and slowest to clog. The green 30ppi which is less coarse and should be the majority of the sponge used in a filter. The blue pad is 40ppi and is a fine polishing pad and will require frequent cleaning but will remove the most from your water to help get a crystal clear look.

All sponge pads can be cut to fit and will even fit the largest filters like the Fluval FX6 and Eheim 1500XL classic and everything smaller. Cut to fit hang on backs or use in sump filters.

This foam is not shipped compressed like most sponge pads on the market. This saves you time and saves the pore structure of the foam to give it more longevity.

1

Pore Density For Every Application

Mechanical filtration refers to sponge, foam, and polishing pads that physically strain out debris from the water, much like a coffee filter. Biological filtration refers to the capacity of a filter media to hold beneficial bacteria to process toxic ammonia and nitrite into less toxic nitrate via the nitrogen cycle. These easy-to-clean filter optimizing pads let you choose how much mechanical filtration you want while also providing excellent biological filtration at the same time. Fine sponge will pick up smaller particles and will need to be cleaned more frequently, while larger sponges need less frequent cleaning, but will only pick up the larger particles.

Customizable to Fit Any Filter

From the tiniest HOB filter to the largest canisters, these cut-to-size pads can be used to upgrade and optimize the efficiency of whichever equipment you prefer to use.

Filter media

I use this filter media in my sump. It works great I like using different PPI material. Before aquarium co-op filter media I just use one type of PPI media and it is restricting too much flow.

Move over, polishing pad. There’s a new kid in town.

We all know about the amazing coarse pad. When optimizing my filtration, coarse pads are my first and main media. I use them in my hobs, box filters and of course, sponge filters. I even use them to create little in tank habitats for black worms. Then, I’d finish things off with the a polishing pad. Worked great except for the polishing pad eventually has to be replaced. It can only be rinsed out so much. I’ve been looking for a polishing pad that lasts as long as the coarse ones. The blue fine pad is a dream come true. If you’re looking for a reusable polishing pad, this is it. If blue requires more rinsing than you are able to do, go green. 💚

Filter optimization pad

I got the medium coarse to go in between my coarse pad and filter floss and it works great, my filter floss isn't getting as nasty as fast and stays
cleaner for longer.

I wanted something better for my Tidal filter & man this thing was worth the money!! The original Blue sponge it came with is half the size of this Green optimizing pad!!

Great value

These are an awesome product! You get so much foam, it's a very generous package, that if you are an average hobbyist these sponges will last a long time. I was able to customize all 5 of my HOB with plenty to spare. So much better than what comes standard with them and they are a WAY cheaper than rebuying the filters that the companies want you to buy. This combined with biological filter media and you are set. Pairs well with the filter floss they sell too.

I converted to using these large porosity filtersinstead of the prefab filter set. So much more economical and sustainable as well because they are reusable. I wish I had know sooner.

I’m in love with it

I appreciate the style of it and it’s better than the stuff from other filters

This is a replacement for a biological filter that came in one of my hang-on-back filters. I love using the coarse or medium sponge pads as they are easy to put in, easy to squeeze-rinse in aquarium water, and put back. I was having issues with the ceramic rings, especially with rinsing and replacing them after a planaria outbreak. Was due for some new filter pads.

Purchased the medium pad and installed it in 3 filters so far. The pad is easy to cut and seems dense enough to perform proper filtration. Will continue to monitor them. So far they seem to do a good job.

Just set up a 21.4 Tideline cube and was able to stuff two sections of the back filter chambers with pieces of the medium green foam, both as extra physical filtration and to prepare as media in case I ever need to set up a quarantine tank. Looking forward to using the ammonia filter pad in my order too, as a second line of defense when I’m vacation and my friends inevitably overfeed. May consider getting the blue fine pad, wish you offered a smaller/half size!

Nice to have options and to be able to customize

I have used the fine and medium sponge pads. I cut them to shape for my Tidal 110s. They do a good job of trapping stuff. Happy!

I'm really loving these filter pads! They are easy to cut and make better replacements for the standard foam that comes with certain filters. I appreciate that these come in 3 different porosity options so you can stack your filters for optimal filtration. As we all know, sponges make the best filter media!

thick

Works great paired with coarse sponge, and I haven’t had any problems with bypass like I had with coarse sponge and fine floss. I did have to butcher it with scissors to reduce thickness by half. The thickness of this product would not allow me to fit any other media into the HOB.
