Most municipal tap water contains chlorine or chloramine to make the water safe for drinking, but it also makes it highly toxic to fish, shrimp, snails, and amphibians. Easy Dechlorinator quickly neutralizes these chemicals so that the water is completely safe to use with aquatic pets.
When to Use Dechlorinator
Use Easy Dechlorinator every time you need to add tap water to your aquarium. This includes filling up a new fish tank, regular water changes, and water top-offs to replace evaporation. While Easy Dechlorinator also detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and heavy metals, we recommend using water changes to remove these harmful chemicals, rather than relying on water conditioners.
Easy Dosing
Every bottle comes with a handy measuring cap so that you can dose:
1 ml of dechlorinator for 10 gallons of water
5 ml of dechlorinator for 50 gallons of water
10 ml of dechlorinator for 100 gallons of water
For tanks smaller than 10 gallons, you can use a small pipette to dose 2 drops per gallon of water.
How to Handle High Chlorine Levels
High chlorine concentrations can happen when the municipality adds more disinfectant than normal due to seasonal changes or if you're disinfecting aquarium equipment with diluted bleach. If the multi-test strip still detects more than 0 ppm chlorine even after using dechlorinator, you can safely dose Easy Dechlorinator up to five times the recommended amount within a 24-hour period. Just make sure you sufficiently agitate the water surface with an air stone or filter to increase oxygen levels.
