Iron is a very important micronutrient within the planted aquarium. This means plants need it to thrive, but in lesser amounts than macronutrients. While Easy Green all-in-one fertilizer already contains plenty of iron for most planted tanks, Easy Iron is a useful supplemental fertilizer for people who are running high light planted tanks with CO2 injection or desire deeper, more vibrant colors — both green and red.
Signs of Iron Deficiency
If your aquarium is low in iron, the newest leaves on the plant often look pale or yellow from insufficient chlorophyll, whereas the old leaves still retain their bright colors. This is because iron cannot freely move from one area of the plant to another area that lacks it.
Why Do I Need More Iron?
Easy Green has plenty of iron, so you typically only need Easy Iron with high light plants that need more nutrients. In order to get more energy, these plants often require supplemental iron to produce an abundance of chlorophyll. Therefore, adding extra iron in your aquarium can result in healthier plant growth and more vivid colors.
Fish, Shrimp, and Snail Safe!
Like all of the Aquarium Co-Op fertilizers, Easy Iron is completely safe for fish, shrimp, and snails.
The Aquarium-CoOp Easy Iron is helping my tank full of Anubias plants overcome some nutrient deficiencies. Combined with Easy Potassium, the new leaves are coming in great and not developing holes. Even though my new crypts get most of their nutrients from Aquarium Co-Op root tabs, I am convinced the Easy Iron is also helping the crypts convert to their underwater state and display more reddish color in their new leaves.
