How to Plant Java Moss
Your Java moss mat can be used in a variety of different ways:
1. Set the mat on top of substrate to start a carpet.
2. Wrap the mat around decor (such as driftwood or rock) to enhance any surface.
In time, Java moss will grab hold of and cover any desired surface. If growth becomes too dense, trim with scissors.
How to Grow Java Moss
— Java moss care is very easy, so start by using low lighting between 10-20 PAR. Too much light may cause excess algae growth, so if you are using a brighter light, consider placing the moss further away from the light or under the shade of taller or floating plants.
— Why is my java moss melting? This plant is grown out of the water at the farm. Once the plants arrive to us, we begin the process of converting them to their underwater form. The plant you receive may be half-converted and still need time to adjust to life under water. To help speed up the transition, provide plenty of light and nutrients to encourage new, bright green growth to sprout from the tips.
— Why is my java moss turning yellow or brown? It may be a nutrient deficiency, so measure the nitrate level using a multi-test strip. Dose with Easy Green all-in-one fertilizer until the water has 20-50 ppm nitrate.
— How to trim java moss: If the java moss has dying fronds or the mossy strands are becoming too unruly, trim them off with a pair of scissors.

How to Propagate Java Moss
Use a sharp pair of scissors to cut off a clump and split the moss into two plants. Plant the two sections as normal, either by weighing it down on the substrate or attaching it to hardscape using super glue gel or sewing thread.
