Sagittaria subulata or dwarf sag is a great plant for aquarists new to planted tanks. It is relatively undemanding and will spread easily to form an eye-catching, grass-like carpet. It tends to stay shorter in brighter lighting but can grow quite tall in lower lighting.

How to Plant Dwarf Sagittaria
1. Remove the potted plant from plastic basket, and split the rock wool in half.
2. Carefully remove the plant roots from the rock wool, and make sure to remove all the small, yellow fertilizer balls. Wash off any remaining debris, and gently separate the plant into multiple small clumps if possible.
3. Use planting tweezers or your fingers to push the roots of the plant deeply into the substrate until they are completely buried. Pull out the plant slightly so that the base of the leaves are not covered with substrate.
4. If the plant keeps popping out of the ground, try inserting the plant at an angle or wrap a plant weight at the bottom of the plant to keep it anchored.
5. Make sure to add lots of root tabs if you’re using inert substrate or if your nutrient-rich substrate is depleted.
How to Care for Dwarf Sagittaria
— Dwarf sagittaria care is very easy, so start by using medium lighting between 20-35 PAR.
— Why is my dwarf sagittaria melting? Plants are grown out of the water at the farm. Once the plants arrive to us, we begin the process of converting them to their underwater form. The plant you receive may be half-converted and still need time to adjust to life under water. To help the plant recover faster and grow new leaves that are accustomed to your water parameters, leave the roots planted in the ground and make sure to provide nutrient-rich planted tank substrate or Easy Root Tabs.
— Why is my dwarf sagittaria turning yellow? If your plant is getting enough light, it may be a nutrient deficiency. If the leaves are yellowing or turning pale after a couple of months, please add more root tabs.
— How to trim dwarf sagittaria: If the plant has dying or melting leaves, cut them off at the base of the leaf. If you wish to prune your dwarf sagittaria carpet to look like a field of grass, use curved scissors to cut all of the leaves to an even height, much like mowing a lawn.
How to Propagate Dwarf Sagittaria
Once it becomes well-established, dwarf sagittaria subulata self-propagates by sending out runners all across the substrate, which can eventually provide ground cover for an entire aquarium. The new baby plants can be trimmed off and replanted or left to grow out naturally.

The plants were pretty melted from shipping, they may have gotten too hot shipping from Kentucky to California, I hope they survive

This is one of the first plants I’ve bought for an easy plant aquarium, and it’s done the best by far. It’s grown a lot in 9 days time using Easy Green and 2 root tabs in the rock wool when I placed it in the tank.

These guys looked great upon arrival, but I'm glad I bought the plant weights in the same order, because they want to float! They are transitioning well, but the Buenos Aires tetras are nibbling on the new growth.

I had 2 orders in February to plant in a new setup. Look at this now! I especially love the Tiger Lotus Bulb. The leaves came off in shipping, but right away began to sprout. I can't believe it's less than 2 months! My amano shrimp are sure happy!

Like most aquarium plants introduced to a new environment, many of the leaves it arrived with have melted away and been replaced with new growth. To my surprise, one of my dwarf sag. has already sent out a runner, with a new plant beginning to grow. It’s been less than two weeks since they arrived.

I wanted a nice carpeting plat that was easy and didn't require Co2. This fit the bill. The plants came in great shape and my Pseudocrenilabrus sp. 'Raha' are enjoying it!

Bought this plant for carpetting, but the leaves are taller than I expected. Expected them to be lower to the ground which has been usually the case when buying this plant. Some leaves growing close to a foot tall. :(
They are very healthy though.

I love these because they send you bigger more grown out plants than most online plants sellers do. I find they are much more likely to survive and thrive when adjusting to my water and substrate. They grow long which is cool, if you cut them once they get really long they spread like crazy so you can even use them to build a carpet reasonably fast. For me this has been my most successful root feeder I have had and I add them to almost all my tanks. Sometimes I use it as a carpet, sometimes a jungle I love them both.

Very good and green condition. Aquarium Co-Op's plant packing and quality is 2nd to none.
My only gripe about Aquarium Co-Op is their continued loyalty to USPS, who is third or 4th to all. Aquarium Co-Op has shipped all of my orders same day every time, but USPS has yet to get them to me by their own (USPS) estimated delivery date all three times. And two of them involved weekends (extending it longer) and contained plants. I won't even go into USPS and a Lithium Ion product.
I now have a heavily planted tank, but only a few of those plants came from Aquarium Co-Op. And that is only because of them using USPS.

This is a great little plant. Aquarium co-op went above and beyond after my first order got stuck in the mail almost 2 weeks (not their fault) and arrived dead. They quickly got another one out to me and it is healthy and beautiful.
