Schismatoglottis Prietoi Tissue Culture
- Easy foreground plant for low light tanks
- Looks like anubias but plants into the ground
- 100% clean with no algae, duckweed, or snails
Schismatoglottis prietoi is a relatively new plant to the aquarium hobby that looks like anubias but has softer leaves and prefers to be planted in substrate. Its almond-shaped, green leaves grow to 1–3 inches (3–8 cm) long and have wavy edges. This compact species is easy to care for and does well in low tech planted aquariums. Once they become well-established, they develop a dense root system and have a faster growth rate than your typical anubias.

How to Plant Schismatoglottis Prietoi
1. Upon receiving the tissue culture plant, immediately open the container and rinse off any excess liquid from the roots.
2. The plant can be planted as one single plant or gently separated into smaller plant clumps if there are multiple nodes.
3. Insert each plant clump into the substrate using planting tweezers or your fingers so that the roots are completely buried but the leaves are above the substrate.
4. For optimal growth, do not move the plant or disturb the roots. Keep the water parameters, lighting, and fertilization schedule as consistent as possible.
How to Grow Schismatoglottis Prietoi Aquarium Plant
— Schismatoglottis prietoi care is very easy, so start by using low lighting between 10-20 PAR.
— Why is my new Schismatoglottis prietoi melting? This plant is grown out of the water at the farm and needs time to create new leaves that are used to living underwater. To help speed up the transition, provide plenty of light and nutrients to encourage new leaves to sprout as the old leaves melt away.
— Why is my Schismatoglottis prietoi turning yellow? If the plant is getting enough light, it may be a nutrient deficiency, so measure the nitrate level using a multi-test strip. Dose with Easy Green all-in-one fertilizer until the water has 20-50 ppm nitrate, and add root tabs. as needed.
— How to trim Schismatoglottis prietoi: If the plant has dying or melting leaves, cut them off at the base of the leaf.
How to Propagate Schismatoglottis Prietoi
This species is similar to cryptocoryne plants in the way it propagates. The original plant will produce runners or side shoots, which grow a little plantlet at the end. Once the plantlet has several leaves and roots, the runner can be clipped, and the new plantlet can be replanted elsewhere.
